What is AIDA Framework?

AIDA (Attention–Interest–Desire–Action) is a classic persuasion framework that structures an ad as four stages: grab attention, build interest, create desire for the product, then drive a specific action.

AIDA (Attention–Interest–Desire–Action) is a classic persuasion framework that structures an ad as four stages: grab attention, build interest, create desire for the product, then drive a specific action.

Formula: Attention -> Interest -> Desire -> Action

The mechanics

In a short-form video ad the stages compress: the hook wins attention in the first seconds, a demo or intriguing detail sustains interest, benefits and social proof build desire, and a clear CTA closes the action. AIDA's strength is completeness — it forces the ad to earn each step rather than jumping to the pitch. It fits desire-led and discovery products especially well, where there is no acute pain to agitate.

Signals that matter

  • Good: each stage visibly present — a real hook, a reason to keep watching, concrete desirability, one clear CTA
  • Bad: ads heavy on attention gimmicks that never convert curiosity into product desire
  • Bad: strong desire-building that trails off without an explicit action step

Putting it to work

AIDA turns scriptwriting into a fill-in-the-stages exercise, which means you can generate many complete script variants quickly and let performance data judge them. Writing the variants in chat and having Polaris render each as a finished UGC video inside Claude keeps the test pipeline as fast as the ideas. See the full ecommerce ads glossary, or put it into practice with the Polaris AI UGC ad generator.

Frequently asked questions

Is AIDA outdated for short-form ads?
The labels are old but the sequence still describes how a converting ad flows; in short-form the four stages just compress into seconds each rather than distinct sections.
How is AIDA different from PAS?
PAS leads with a pain and intensifies it; AIDA leads with attention and builds positive desire. PAS fits problem-solvers, AIDA fits aspirational or novelty products — many ads blend both.
Which AIDA stage matters most in paid social?
Attention, by a wide margin — if the hook fails, the rest of the ad never gets seen. Test hooks hardest, then make sure desire and action are actually present.
